Paul participates in the annual Amateur Radio exercise known as "Field Day." Clubs throughout the USA and Canada set up emergency-powered transmitters and temporary antennas to demonstrate the ability to communicate in emergencies. The exercise lasts 34 hours and the object is to work as many stations as possible. Paul is licensed as WA2JPJ and is a member of the Peconic Amateur Radio Club (PARC). For the 2001 Field Day, PARC set up its equipment at the Horton Point Lighthouse over looking Long Island Sound.
