The Philip E. Birman Collection of Lincoln Memorabilia
This collection is housed at the museum on the campus of the Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate Tennessee. The location is very near to the Cumberland Gap where the states of Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky come together. Philip E. Birman was Paul's uncle. Educated at NYU Law School, graduating in 1918 and a resident of the Bronx New York, he was Assistant Corporation Counsel to the City of New York and had been in the city's service for 25 years before his death in 1947. He was also counsel of the Sister Servants of Mary. His passion was to collect Lincoln memorabilia, particularly having to do with the assassination and its aftermath.One item in the collection is a reserved seat ticket to Ford's Theater on March 27th 1865 found on Louis Payne one of the conspirators against President Lincoln.
