n Bastille Day, 130+ guests gathered at the Sound View Restaurant in Greenport, to participate in the 2005 Catch a Star Literary Luncheon sponsored by Congregation Tifereth Israel's Daughters of Israel.  As always, the event was organized by Paula Shengold who introduced her literary stars: Toni Munna, Irene Cornell, Billy Hands and Laurence Maslon.

Eric Weiskott, recipient of the Daughters of Israel scholarship for Literary achievement. Eric graduated from Greenport High school this spring and is headed to Wesleyan University to continue his studies.

Catch a Star Luncheons

Irene Cornell, WCBS reporter regaled the audience with tales of courtroom dramatics she's witnessed, including the recent sentencing of Bernard Ebbers for the Worldcom fraud. Her stories included, John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, John Gotti of the Mafia and Martha Stewart.

Toni Munna , actress and director is active in the East End Theater and reviews the local theater for the Times-Review newspapers

Laurence Maslon, of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, read about the Rogers and Hammerstein post-war plays such as South Pacific, whose song, "You Got to be Taught to Hate" was regarded with suspicion in the south and denounced from the floor of the Georgia Senate

Billy Hands read selections of his poetry, some of which have become the lyrics for songs,  He emphasized that as he is not a singer, he would just read them
