The gala party celebrating Congregation Tifereth Israel's centennial was held September 30, 2001 at the Soundview restaurant.  It would have been overlooking beautiful Long Island Sound if a nor'easter had not been howling at the time!

As is its custom, the Congregation honored a local figure as Citizen of the Year.  This year it was
Dan Rattiner,  publisher of Dan's Papers and a prolific satiric writer.  Three couples, members of the congregation, were designated Congregation Honorees.  They are: Saul and Suzi Rosenstreich, she a professor of foreign languages and literature, he a medical doctor and administrator of Central Suffolk Hospital; Paul and Rosemarie Birman, she a retired computer pioneer-programmer, he an engineer and marketer of high tech instruments.  Paul was responsible for the fund raising for and construction of the new addition to the synagogue's social hall; Ron and Anne Smith, she the Principal of Cutchogue East elementary school, he a reading specialist with the Rocky Point schools a CSW with a clinical practice in counseling.

We danced to the music of the Trevor Davison band and listened to speeches by the Town Supervisor and Congressional Representative.  A great time was had by all.
