Greenport Ecumenical Ministries attend Seder at Congregation Tifereth Israel
80+ members of various congregations in and around Greenport enjoyed a mock Passover Seder Reverend Nathaniel Heyward of the Clinton Memorial A.M.E Zion Church, Rev. Beverly Furey of the Orient United Methodist Church, Reverend Garret Johnson of St. Peters Lutheran Church, and, Pastor Ann Van Cleff of the Orient Congregational Church and many of their congregants shared the tradition of the Passover Seder April 20th at Congregation Tifereth, Greenport, with Rabbi Myron Fenster. When the rabbi invited the Greenport Ecumenical Ministries (GEM) to Congregation Tifereth Israel for a seder with explanations, we thought we'd have about 30-40 members of the various congregations present. We wound up with about 80 people and needed to set up extra tables. We provided gafilte fish, matzo ball soup, hardboiled eggs, macaroons and matzo. all prepared by congregation president, Dr. Micah Kaplan, his wife, Gayle and their daughter, assisted by Adrianne Greenberg, Paula Shengold and Roberta Garris. Of course, we also had haroset, horseradish and parsley for the Seder plate.
Rabbi Fenster conducted an abbreviated Passover Seder linking ancient Jewish history to 21st century America. and was in full Henny Youngman mode to the great amusement of his guests.
